Construction Innovation – An Annotated Bibliography1

An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to references such as books and articles In an annotated bibliography, each citation is followed by a brief descriptive paragraph of about 150 words, the annotation, which describes the reference and may evaluate its quality. The annotation’s purpose is to provide sufficient information for the reader to determine the relevance and value of the reference to the reader.
This paper is the result of an exhaustive literature review of journal and magazine articles, conference proceedings, books, and dissertations on construction innovation. It also includes particularly valuable references on general industrial innovation. The most current Internet sites that promote and disseminate information about innovations in construction are included as a special section. The primary target was general literature on construction innovation management, methods, implementation, technology transfer, models, and history. Most items that deal with a particular construction innovation such as a new construction material or a new piece of construction equipment were not included. Some references describe manufacturing models and applications that can be used in construction. A total of 64 references are cited and annotated.
The annotated bibliography provides a distinctive view, unique and original in its breadth and depth, into the state of the art of construction innovation. As a catalog of available information, it is an essential guide to basic research and industry practice on which others can build. It is invaluable in providing a starting point for current and future construction innovation researchers. It helps people determine the best sources of information to solve problems and advance industry practice. It is of particular value to construction owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and materials and equipment manufacturers in developing innovative policies and practices.
Abstract: This annotated bibliography covers journal articles, conference proceedings, books, and dissertations on construction innovation and in some cases general industrial innovation. References to the most current Internet sites that promote and disseminate information about innovations in construction are included as a special section. The primary target was general literature on construction innovation management, methods, implementation, technology transfer, models, and history. Most articles that dealt with a particular construction innovation such as a new construction material or a new piece of construction equipment were not included. Some references describe manufacturing models and applications that can be used in construction. More than 60 references are included.
